Students For Mathematics Foundation
The Students for Mathematics Foundation (SMF) was founded in March 2021 during the pandemic to address educational inequities in underserved communities. Focused on fostering a love for mathematics and STEM, SMF organised interactive workshops at local orphanages, inspiring children to explore mathematics and develop critical thinking skills.

Bridging Communities through STEM
In March 2021, amidst the challenges of the global pandemic, I founded the Students for Mathematics Foundation (SMF) with a singular mission: to foster a love for mathematics and STEM within local communities. The pandemic exposed deep inequities in education, disproportionately affecting vulnerable populations. In response, I envisioned SMF as a bridge to bring the transformative power of education to those most in need.
From its inception, the Foundation aimed to address these disparities by making mathematics more accessible and engaging. The initiative has grown into a platform that not only helps students build critical thinking skills but also inspires them to see the beauty and utility of mathematics in everyday life.
Foundation Objectives and Vision
The Students for Mathematics Foundation was born out of a simple belief: every child deserves access to quality education, regardless of their circumstances. Mathematics, as the language of the universe, offers a unique way to unlock creativity and problem-solving abilities. SMF seeks to:
Promote an appreciation for mathematics and STEM.
Provide educational resources to underserved communities.
Empower children to develop analytical and critical thinking skills.
Foster a culture of curiosity and lifelong learning.
By creating an inclusive and interactive approach to mathematics, SMF has positioned itself as a force for change in local communities.
Early Beginnings: Strategic Vision and Growth
Establishing SMF during the pandemic required strategic planning and a clear vision. My role as the founder and leader involved spearheading various initiatives, including:
Strategic Planning:Â I outlined a roadmap to identify key areas of focus, including outreach to underprivileged communities and resource allocation. This ensured that our efforts were targeted and impactful.
Fundraising:Â Mobilising resources was a priority. Through collaboration with local businesses and generous individuals, SMF raised the funds needed to organise educational sessions, purchase materials, and expand our reach.
Outreach Initiatives:Â Connecting with communities was integral to our mission. I led efforts to engage with schools, orphanages, and local NGOs, building partnerships that laid the foundation for sustainable growth.
Interactive Sessions at Local Orphanages
One of SMF’s most impactful initiatives has been organising interactive mathematics workshops at local orphanages. These sessions are designed to make mathematics approachable and fun, using games, puzzles, and real-life applications to captivate young minds. By demystifying mathematics, these workshops have:
Encouraged children to explore STEM subjects.
Improved problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
Built confidence and a sense of achievement among participants.
Seeing the children’s eyes light up as they solve a challenging puzzle or understand a concept for the first time has been one of the most rewarding aspects of this journey.
Leadership and Organisational Growth
Leading the Students for Mathematics Foundation has been a transformative experience for me. The challenges of managing a growing organisation have honed my leadership and organisational skills. Key achievements include:
Team Building:Â I recruited and mentored a dedicated team of volunteers who share my passion for education and community service.
Long-Term Mission: By establishing clear goals and a sustainable structure, I have guided the foundation’s growth and ensured its continued impact.
Enhanced Visibility: Through effective use of social media and local events, I have significantly expanded SMF’s visibility, attracting more supporters and participants.
Stepping Down as Leader
In June 2024, I stepped down as the leader of the Students for Mathematics Foundation. This decision marked the end of a transformative chapter in my journey with SMF. Although I no longer lead the organisation, I remain deeply committed to its mission and continue to support its initiatives in new capacities. The foundation is now in capable hands, with a strong team to carry forward its vision.
Impact and Testimonials
Since its inception, SMF has touched the lives of hundreds of children, providing them with the tools and confidence to succeed academically and beyond. Feedback from participants and their caretakers has been overwhelmingly positive, with many noting the transformative effect of these sessions on children’s attitudes towards learning.
For example, a caretaker at Tayyabia orphanage, one of the places we visited regularly shared:
The workshops have been a game-changer for our children. They look forward to each session and have started approaching their studies with enthusiasm.
Conclusion
The journey of founding and leading the Students for Mathematics Foundation has been one of immense growth and learning. It has allowed me to contribute meaningfully to my community while honing my skills as a leader and educator. Most importantly, it has reinforced my belief in the power of education to transform lives.
Through SMF, I hope to continue inspiring children to embrace the wonders of mathematics and realise their potential, one equation at a time.
