Its George Harrison.
The Beatles have been my favourite band since at least 2019. Over the years, they’ve been a constant source of inspiration and joy for me. With over 200 of their songs in my playlist, many of which I’ve listened to dozens of times, I can confidently say that their music never grows old. From their early rock ‘n’ roll hits to their experimental later works, they’ve captured every mood and moment of my life. But as much as I love them as a group, the question of my favourite Beatle has been a journey of its own.
Initially, I was drawn to Paul McCartney. His charisma, melodic basslines, and knack for writing unforgettable songs like "Hey Jude" and "Let It Be" made him stand out. Then, I shifted my admiration to John Lennon. His edgy creativity and profound lyrics in songs like "I am The Walrus" and "Strawberry Fields Forever" were mesmerizing. But after some time, my allegiance swung back to McCartney, whose versatility and charm couldn’t be ignored.
Finally, I landed on George Harrison as my favourite Beatle—and he’s stayed there ever since. George’s guitar skills, in my opinion, are the best in the band. His solos are not just technically brilliant but emotionally profound. Songs like "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" showcase his ability to pour his soul into every note, leaving a lasting impression. His contributions to the band often feel understated, but they’re integral to the magic of the Beatles’ sound. Beyond his musicianship, George’s spiritual and introspective nature adds another layer of depth to his artistry, making him a figure I deeply admire.
Another song that highlights George’s genius is "Here Comes the Sun." Its uplifting melody and hopeful lyrics make it one of the most beloved tracks in the Beatles’ discography. The song’s intricate acoustic guitar work and warm harmonies reflect George’s ability to craft music that resonates deeply with listeners. For me, "Here Comes the Sun" is a perfect example of his knack for turning simplicity into something profoundly beautiful, and it’s a song I turn to whenever I need a moment of light and peace.
What further solidifies George as my favourite is his deep connection with India. His exploration of Indian music and spirituality not only influenced his own work but also brought a unique dimension to the Beatles’ music. Collaborations with sitar Ustad Ravi Shankar and his contributions to tracks like "Within You Without You" introduced millions to the sounds and philosophies of India. For me, this connection makes George even more admirable, as it reflects his openness to new ideas and his desire to grow beyond the confines of Western music traditions.
When it comes to Lennon, my feelings are mixed. While I respect his creative genius, his personal decisions—especially introducing the band to Yoko Ono—make me less fond of him. McCartney remains a close second to Harrison; his unparalleled talent and boundless energy are undeniable, even if he doesn’t quite resonate with me on the same level. And then there’s Ringo Starr, who often gets the short end of the stick in these rankings. But let me be clear: Ringo is one of the best drummers in the world. His steady rhythms and creative beats provided the backbone for the Beatles’ success. His song "With a Little Help from My Friends" is, in fact, my most listened-to Beatles track by far.
So, my ranking goes: Harrison, McCartney, Lennon, and Ringo. But this doesn’t diminish my respect for all of them. Each Beatle brought something unique to the table, and together they created a legacy that has shaped music history and touched millions of lives—including mine. While I’ll always have my personal favourite, the truth is, there’s no Beatles without each one of them.
